Changing Worlds

In preparation for returning to school for term four I found myself viewing, reading and thinking of ways to allow the learner to be more creative, become  fully engaged and to take responsibility for their learning.  A few years back I observed a teacher in her classroom. There were several tasks that were to be completed by a certain time of the day.
Today years later I am going to try and work with this idea. After viewing this video clip it it makes me more sure.

If you don't try- You won't know

The beginning of the year learning space did not work as well as I anticipated.  You don't know if you don't try. Right??

I found it easier to move around the desks to work with the children, and bring them together for discussions.

Students Choose

Give credit to other teachers ideas and adapt it. Gave the opportunity to my year 5/6 class to design there own classroom. Colours, seating, digital etc. Finding real quotes, furniture etc. They're loving it. 2 weeks. End
Task. A coloured classroom plan. We'll keep you posted

MLE v Traditional

Reading lots of articles. Are some parents still stuck in the past
OR does the MLE just add frustration to our students.

Creative Classrooms

.
Sitting at the desk too long prompted me to inquire about creative Classrooms

My first thought was some sort of laptop stand. I used the school lecturn. Too much slope. Couldn't move around. Only had one level.

Twittering

Have opened a twitter account for some of the year 6s, lets see where this leads us.

Oh No the third term

OMG time is flying past quickly...... and I am wondering about my goal this year and where am I at. The goal post has moved further outfield and it is going to take a little longer to get there. The classblogmeister seems to be sitting on the fence, the wiki is taking a break. So what is it.... a tad of frustration by such a range of students levels and abilities. 21 kids ranging from year 4 to year 6. reading abilities from 5 years old to 13 plus. Its a tough call. With new ideas, and assessment tools something has to be abandoned... What will it be? So the RWC has taken over for the rest of the term.... what engaging questions will the tamariki have?

Profile

Hey there, I am in the process of putting together a simple framework for our unit. Consultation with the tamariki and with the parents will add support. The tamariki seem to be enjoying their time with Kiri when I am out of the classroom, becaus she plays games, in Maori, when really they are learning and dont even know it... funny huh.

what do the kids think?

Using coloured felt for sharing their ideas was exciting for them. One of the questions were, how does the classroom environment help your learning. Some answers were; we can see maori kupu and whakapapa around the walls. Others reminds us of who we are.
